On 28 September 2026, employees in the security sector received an increase to their minimum rate of hourly pay.
Following an amendment to the Employment Regulation Order for the security industry, the minimum rate for an adult security worker has now moved from €15.41 to €16.15 per hour.
What is an Employment Regulation Order?
An Employment Regulation Order (ERO) sets out minimum wage rates and other conditions of employment for a specific sector.
An ERO is drawn up by a Joint Labour Committee (JLC), made up of both employer and worker representatives. Once the terms are set, the ERO is adopted by the Labour Court, and given statutory effect by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
In this case, the ERO sets out a minimum wage for those employed in the security sector. It's important to note, however, that this change will only apply to those who are employed by a security firm within the sector, rather than anyone performing a security role.
